SEVIS Transfer-Out Form & Exit Survey

Planning to continue your studies at a different SEVP-certified school? Submit your SEVIS I-20 transfer request together with the required Exit Survey using the form below.

Please read the eligibility, dates, and instructions below before submitting.

What Is a SEVIS Transfer?

Getting accepted to a new school is not enough to begin full-time study there. You must also ask Nobel University (NU) to transfer your SEVIS I-20 record to the new school. A SEVIS transfer is different from an academic transfer.

Why Transfer Your SEVIS Record?

💲
No new SEVIS fee

You don’t have to pay the $350 I-901 SEVIS fee again.

🇺🇸
Stay in the U.S.

You can remain in the U.S. between programs — no need to leave and re-enter.

🛡
Keep your SEVIS ID

Your SEVIS ID stays the same. Time at NU can count toward CPT at your new school.

When You Can Transfer

The U.S. government recognizes these common SEVIS transfer situations:

1
After completing a program

For example, finishing your bachelor’s and starting a graduate program, or finishing ESL and starting a degree.

2
Switching schools mid-program

Moving to a different school before finishing your current program. At NU, mid-program transfers are processed only after the current quarter ends.

3
During or after OPT

Starting a new program either during OPT or after the OPT period ends.

Are You Eligible?

To request a SEVIS transfer, you must meet all of the following:

  • You are maintaining valid F-1 status.
  • You have an acceptance letter from a new SEVP-certified school.
  • If you have graduated or finished OPT, you are still within your 60-day grace period.
  • Classes at the new school will begin within 5 months of your program completion date, last enrollment date, or OPT end date.
⚠️ Important: If more than 5 months pass between F-1 activities, you can no longer transfer. The new school must issue a new initial I-20 with a new SEVIS number — and you will have to pay the $350 SEVIS fee again.

What Is the Transfer / Release Date?

This is the date your SEVIS record moves from Nobel University to your new school. Only one school can access your SEVIS record at a time.

On the Transfer/Release Date:
  • NU loses access to your SEVIS record.
  • Your new school gains access and can issue your new I-20.
  • OPT and on-campus employment authorization end, regardless of EAD card dates.
📍 Keep in mind when picking a date:
  • NU needs time to process — the release date cannot be backdated.
  • If processed after your chosen date, your record will be released on the day NU completes processing.
  • You can cancel your request only before the release date — never on or after.

Choosing Your Release Date

Use the table below to pick a release date that matches your situation:

Your SituationRecommended Release Date
Stopping studies at NU (no graduation) Day after finals week ends.Transfer cannot happen before the quarter ends. Ask NU if you need to keep working on campus temporarily.
Temporary study at another school Day after finals week ends.
Graduating, not applying for OPT Day after finals week ends, and at least 3 weeks before your 60-day grace period ends.
OPT pending or approved, no plan to use it As soon as possible.
OPT approved, plan to use it before next program One day after your last day of OPT employment.OPT ends on the transfer date, regardless of your EAD end date.
OPT approved, currently unemployed At least 3 weeks before your 90-day OPT unemployment limit ends.
⚠️ Missing the right transfer date can put your F-1 status at risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I cancel my transfer after the release date?

No. You can only cancel before the release date. Once that date passes, your SEVIS record belongs to the new school.

Does the SEVIS transfer cancel my OPT?

Yes. OPT and any on-campus employment authorization end on the SEVIS transfer/release date — even if your EAD card shows a later date.

Do I have to pay the $350 SEVIS fee again?

No. A SEVIS transfer keeps your existing SEVIS record and ID, so the I-901 fee does not need to be paid again.

What if my new program starts more than 5 months after I leave NU?

You will not be able to transfer your SEVIS record. The new school must issue a new initial I-20 with a new SEVIS number, and you will have to pay the $350 SEVIS fee again.

Can I travel outside the U.S. while my transfer is pending?

Travel during a pending transfer is allowed but can be complicated. Speak with the DSO at both schools before you leave, and try not to travel internationally again once you re-enter on a “transfer pending” I-20 until you receive your “transfer complete” I-20 with a travel signature.

When must I report to my new school?

Within 15 days of the program start date listed on your new I-20.
