This page is for F-1 students (and their F-2 dependents) at Nobel University who are looking for information on health insurance. Unlike J-1 Exchange Visitors, F-1 students are not required by federal regulation to carry health insurance, and Nobel University does not require or provide a specific student health insurance plan.
Even so, we strongly recommend that every F-1 student (and any F-2 dependents) carry some form of health insurance for the full time they are in the United States. Medical care here is expensive, and your visa status does not cover medical costs if you become sick, are injured, or need to see a doctor.
Why coverage matters
- A single emergency room visit or hospital stay in the U.S. can cost thousands of dollars without insurance.
- Routine care — doctor visits, prescriptions, vaccinations — is also far more affordable with a plan than paying out of pocket.
- If you have F-2 dependents (spouse or children) with you in the U.S., they are not automatically covered by anything Nobel provides either — plan for their coverage as well.
- Nobel University does not provide or cover health care costs for students. (Nobel does carry a limited accident policy for injuries during University-sponsored activities on campus — contact the Business Office for details — but this is not a substitute for personal health insurance.)
Where to find a plan
You are free to purchase health insurance from any licensed insurance provider you choose. One resource many international students use is:
ISO Student Insurance (ISOA)
ISO Student Insurance (isoa.org) describes itself as an insurance manager founded by and for international students, serving students and scholars in the U.S. since 1958. It offers several plan tiers for F-1 students — including Silver, Gold, Compass PPO, ISO Secure, and Platinum plans — as well as dedicated plans for OPT, F-2/J-2 dependents, and other visa categories.

Good to know: Nobel University does not endorse any specific insurance company, and ISOA is shared here only as one informational resource — not a requirement. You are welcome to choose any licensed provider. Please review a plan’s coverage, cost, and terms directly with the insurer before purchasing, and reach out to our Admissions Office if you have any questions.
