The purpose of the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program is to provide international participants with opportunities for professional development, insight into American know-how, and a greater understanding of American society and culture.

The J-1 Student Intern Program is a category within the Exchange Visitor program for students who are currently enrolled in and pursuing studies at a foreign degree-granting post-secondary academic institution outside the United States who plan to conduct an internship at Nobel University.

The J-1 Student Intern Program bridges the gap between education and practical work experience. It is designed to allow foreign college and university students to gain exposure to U.S. culture and to receive hands-on experience in U.S. business practices in their chosen occupational field. The Student Interns are expected to share the cross-cultural and professional knowledge they have gained in the U.S. upon returning to their home country at the end of the program. The J-1 Student Intern Program is also intended to allow American businesses and individuals to learn about the culture and expertise of the participant’s home country.

This Information booklet will provide you with information on the J-1 Student Intern Program, including requirements and limitations established by federal regulation and institutional policy, and other information that will help you to prepare for your stay in the United States.

Please note that the Student Intern category is subject to very specific regulatory limitations and federal reporting requirements; therefore, you should carefully review the information and instructions in the following sections in order to determine if it is the appropriate category for an exchange visitor you wish to pursue.
